Fields: Add/Edit Search Result Display

Add/Edit Search Result Display lets you add a new search result display to the system, or edit an existing search result display. When you add or edit a search result display, you define the search target associated with the search result display. Depending on the search target that you choose, Portfolio displays a list of available search fields that you can use to display data on the search result display. The search fields that are available for you to choose from depend on the search fields that you have set up previously and whether those search fields are enabled for the search target associated with the search result display. For more information, see Managing search fields and Managing Discovery search targets.

If you add new Discovery or federated search sources to a search target after you have created or edited a search result display associated with that search target, Portfolio displays additional available search fields for that search result display.

Displays > Search Result Displays > Add Search Result Display

Displays > Search Result Displays > Edit

You can also choose which enriched content options you want to display on the search result display. The enriched content options that are available for you to choose from depend on the enriched content sources that you have previously set up.

If you add or edit the settings for a display, you must refresh the Discovery search cache afterwards. Your changes are not reflected in Searching or the Admin console until you refresh the search cache. For more information about refreshing the Discovery search cache, see Refreshing the search cache.

Search Result Display Name

Displays the name of the search result display that you are editing. If you are adding a search result display, this information does not appear.

Code

Specifies a unique code for this search result display (up to 30 characters). This code is used on Search Result Displays and on other pages that display the search result display code.

Note: This value must be unique. If you enter a code that is already being used elsewhere on the system and try to save the theme, the software displays an error message indicating that the value must be unique, and informing you that the value you entered is already being used for another search result display.

Name

Specifies the system name of the search result display (up to 80 characters) for the specified language. This name is used to identify the search result display on the Manage Search Result Display page and on any other pages in the Admin console that display the search result display name.

For this field, you can also specify an alternate name for a specific language. Choose the language from the drop-down list of supported languages, then enter the localized name in the field.

Note: If your web browser is configured to use a display language that is not supported by Portfolio and you have chosen to display the Admin console in a language other than the default language (en_US), the language that displays in the drop-down list of supported languages defaults to US English.

If a localized name already exists for a specific language, the software displays that language name differently in the drop-down list. When you enter a localized name for a specific language, the language name appears with a “++” suffix. If you clear the localized name for a specific language, the software displays the language name without the different formatting.

Description

Specifies a text description of this search result display (up to 255 characters).

Note: This field is optional.

Search Target

Specifies the Discovery search target associated with the search result display.

Note: This field does not appear when editing any default search result display because its associated search target cannot be modified.

Specifies the action that you want to invoke when patrons click on the title of an item in the search results.
